Milton Alfred (Al) Darling, Jr. died January 15, 2010. He was the son of Milton Alfred Darling, MD and Winogene Ellett Darling, and brother of Charles Ellett Darling, MD. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 8, 1921 and on September 26, 1942 he married Dorothy Eaton Brooks who survives.
Al held a BA from the University of Michigan ('42) and a JD from Harvard University ('48). He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-46 and reached the rank of Major. His professional career spanned 35 years on both the national and international Labor Relations staff at the Ford Motor Company. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Al Darling is survived by three children; Linda (David) Onheiber of Tualatin, OR, Brooks (Jane) Darling and David Darling, both of Suttons Bay, MI. And five grandchildren; Matthew, Katie, Ben, Mason and Clay, as well as three nieces and a nephew.
Al enjoyed his Bloomfield Hills and Suttons Bay residences, and was a world traveler both professionally and for pleasure. He was a member of the Birmingham Athletic Club for 47 years, the Traverse City Golf & Country Club, Traverse City Economic Club, University of Michigan Alumni Association, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Harvard Club of Southeastern Michigan and Christ Church Cranbrook.
He especially enjoyed playing squash and tennis, the family home on Grand Traverse Bay and his Marine Corps reunions.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, February 6 at 11:00am at Christ Church Cranbrook, 470 Church Road, Bloomfield Hills. There will be a reception immediately following.
